My Story

Story. Art. Life.

My name is Lisa Wiltse and I’m a photographer, artist and storyteller creating art from my beautiful messy life. In a previous iteration of my narrative, I traveled the world as a documentary photographer and told stories about children’s lives across cultures. I’ve always had a nostalgic spirit, fascinated by childhood characters and objects that are playful and sometimes strange. My camera took me on adventures to South America, New Zealand, Australia, USA, France, and now Ireland with my daughter and husband.

An unexpected thing happened along the way. After spending years convinced that photography was my only creative outlet, and after traveling great lengths (in every sense of the word) to seek out stories, I felt something was missing. I wanted to be home. I wanted to create images with my own hands. I wanted to travel inward and bring alive the stories of my imagination.

I began illustrating and painting at home, inspired by my newfound adventures of being a mom and the details and diversity of nature and everyday life. Whereas previously, I’d told myself I couldn’t draw, now I see every flaw and imperfection as a beautiful mark of experience and perspective.

My new world in art is the storytelling of the self, driven by the same curiosity that fuels us as children: a hunger to question and explore and grow.

It is also much greater than the self. By donating a portion of sales to children’s charities, I feel my work is brought full circle: from inspiration to connection.

I hope you’ll wonder and wander around these little corners of my world—and maybe find there are surprising parts of you here, too.
